SICK expands activities in Canada
Waldkirch/Richmond Hill, January 2009 – SICK Ltd., the newly founded Canadian subsidiary, has taken over the business of AMKO SYSTEMS INC. in Toronto. As a distributor and project service provider with great engineering and service competence, AMKO is a respected supplier of environmental measurement technology on the Canadian market.

SICK has purchased the tangible and intangible assets of AMKO Systems Inc. with effect from 2 January 2009. As a successful and dependable business partner over many years, AMKO has already used SICK analysers in numerous customer projects for flue gas and dust measurement in, for example, power stations and cement factories. The new company, with a short-term annual sales target of approx. 5 m. Canadian dollars, represents an important component of SICK’s NAFTA strategy for the process automation segment. Building upon the high technical competence and customer orientation of the employees, kept on after the takeover, the business will be further developed under SICK direction. The expansion of sales and the exploitation of cross-company synergies within the SICK organisation are priorities for further improving market opportunities.

Dr. Robert Bauer, Spokesperson for SICK’s Executive Board: “Given the difficult overall economic situation we are delighted about this expansion in the area of process automation – a sector that is less dependent on short-time economic cycles. Moreover, our direct presence on the interesting Canadian market will contribute towards further enhancing SICK’s overall position in North America.”
